8:52 pm - A Bad Case of Hepburn.
Been trying to draw one thing a day, even if it's little, as one awesome Persona suggested to me. Referenced some Audrey Hepburn photos for the face, trying to do something different. What a looker she was.

It dawned on me while drawing this that Adam Hughes must reference Hepburn when he draws Catwoman.

6:11 pm - Regionless Saturn Games? Yes, they do exist! (?)
So Kiken this is interesting. I was trying to get this copy of Burning Rangers I bought to load on my Saturn, and on a whim I dropped in my US copy of Christmas NiGHTS that I've had since highschool into my Japanese Console, and low and behold it runs. I tried a couple other US games I have, and of course, no dice.

Pretty neat!

7:43 pm - Monster Rancher DS trailer!
Including my voice acting debut as the guy who goes 'Alakazam!' ... also, I edited this/did the motion graphics/designs, etc. If you like it, rate it up! Maybe I'll get to edit s'more trailers. P.S., if you go to the actual page, you can watch it in 720p. (Seriously!)

1:01 am - Mine is the the drill that can etc. etc.

More artworking. Was showing my neice the tablet after work, and got a bit carried away. For color, I shaded in grey and then used another layer set to 98% opacity and blend mode color... it gives it a nice effect.

It feels good to have working drivers for the wacom again.

9:58 pm - Constructive Criticism
This is probably the best review of anything I spent months of my life designing and laying out... ever. P.S. I put all those girls into the Persona 4 guide just to vex this guy. Thanks for linking me, Persona!

NSFW, more or less!

(P.S. Yes I am being sarcastic. )

4:13 pm - The Deadpool McScuffle

Dear Fox:

I can fix this for you in like 5 seconds, and you don't even have to throw out that movie! Check this out:

In my mind, X-Men Origins: Wolverine is actually told from the perspective of Deadpool.

Hear me out for a second...

'They tried to cut off my mouth, but that didn't stop me! I suddenly grew two claws out of my arms LONGER than my arms actually were and went all snikt-snikt Jedi and I had TELEPORTING powers and everything. Literally every power there ever was, ever. Plus flying.'

You know, lying, embellishing, telling a tall tale to make himself look cooler. I think in reality he showed up and they probably just pushed him into the nuclear reactor. Double plus points he uses this story to (A) try to pick up chicks and fails or (B) tries to talk himself up to people and people laugh at him and tell him to stop telling the same corny story.

5:56 am - Editors Gone Wild
It occurs to me as I sit awake here at infomercialo'clock that it's actually some dude's job -- nay, there are probably serious board meetings with charts -- to envision new and interesting ways to censor naked boobies for Girls Gone Wild infomercials.

I can just imagine the think tank!

"Bursts with stars!"

"How about if we overlay two stars over each other?"

"But it's missing something..."

"Do the stars spin?"

"That's it! That's what we were missing; Parallax!"

"How about if they glow, too?"

"And sparkles."

"But we have so many boobs to censor.. won't that get repetitive?"

"How about on one shot... we track the motion of her top coming off, and then right before the nipples.. pow, floating DVD covers! It'll be amazing."

"Maury, you're a genius! This is the best thing since floating dollarsigns!"

"Shit's so cash."

Also, imagine if the editor sucked at this job:

"Dude, those DVD covers aren't floaty enough! They don't have enough perspective! Why aren't they rendered in 3D? And man, look, that girl in the background? You missed her nipples! Where are her floating dollar signs!?"

"Well, it's only a rough draft..."

8:44 am - Unfinished
I started drawing this a little the other night and work flared up. I really wish I had time to actually finish and color a drawing ever.

I intended her to hold a gun and an umbrella, but it never got that far (I never even got to fix the shoulders or the right arm really.) So she's polygonally handed.

As far as I can tell... this isn't a parody.

4:35 pm - Return of the Doodles
I got a new tablet (yay intuous), so I've started drawing a bit again. Trying to get used to it... using Photoshop, actually... with working pen pressure finally! It's a lot bigger than I wanted, though mostly because I apparently visualize measurements very poorly.

It came with Corel Painter Sketchpad or something. I haven't had much of a chance to mess with that.

2:55 am - KOF XII first impressions:
* They really reverted Kyo. I miss his punches, but like his command throws being back.
* I played this for about 5 minutes while waiting for a PDF to export... and SCC'd it on default difficulty. I barely even ever went to my second or third characters.
* I get that the pixelated look was a stylistic choice, but it looks a little odd if you're not in on the joke, so to speak. At least it's clean by default and it DOES looks nice. The only problem is, the extreme zoom when you're close together really mars this a bit.
* People are going to be mad about the lack of story, or at least, I didn't see any story the little I played. Despite /enjoying/ the story, I'm more worried about the gameplay.
* The controller input is not as loose as KOF XI or NGBC. Some people will like this, some people not. I feel bad for the 360 owners on a pad.
* Pretty backgrounds. Great color choices. A little stiff in some places, but overall solid design.
* Speaking of stiff, some of the idle animations are very stiff. What's up with Athena? Other than looking like a fugmo alien, anyway.
* How is the patch 772mb!? Yet again, I feel bad for the 360 kids with tiny hard drives if it's as big over there.
* The game really shouts 'I'm not quite done yet!!' Despite this, the game should've come out before BlazBlue, because the presentation pales in comparison. It's not bad and I don't feel like I wasted my money by any stretch, but it's going to hurt the game sales because BB is so much bang for the buck. The average gamer who decides to get into a 2D fighter is going to skip this, unfortunately.
* I hope people buy this game domestically instead of importing it, because the packaging design was done well and the manual was nice, clean, and in color. If it flops here, I wonder if we'll get any more KOFs.

Also, how does _this_ make it through development?:

9:32 pm - BlazBlue Fun
This is me and my buddy Nabi playing BlazBlue from Arc System Works. This is like the 3rd match I played, so I had no idea what I was doing. Not too bad, all things considering! Online play was stable, not too laggy... which is a surprise on day one. :) Also, the dubbing is really good, something that's an inhuman feat for a fighting game. This was capped as a test for a project I'm doing.

Check out the bottom link for the HD 720p version.

5:31 am - Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles Season 2 Cover

Time travel seems to have adversely affected Sarah's head to body ratio.

The press assets for this show was generally high quality, too, despite the dip in quality in the writing for the second season.

12:14 pm - My Xbox 360...
...broke again. I don't believe it. It won't read disks anymore. This will be the 4th time I've had to send it in to be "fixed." I don't even play it that much. I get it back, play it a little bit, and let it sit. I come back 3 or 4 months later and play something new, and then it suddenly stops working. It sits on my TV stand and gets dusted, really... I don't throw it around or abuse it... what the hell MS?

It's really mind numbing. The awful experience people had with the PS2? I never had it. I was as careful with the 360 as I was with those, and still, broke broke broke. I guess it doesn't help that the 360 sounds like it's going to achieve liftoff every time I try to turn the damn thing on.

People wonder why I pick up most of my multiplatform games for the PS3.. and this is it: I'm less afraid of the thing breaking on me if I look at it the wrong way.

(Pictured: My 360 the first time it died due to the video stuff coming unseated.)

3:21 am - MST3k in HD
... it just seems wrong somehow.

More shots!Collapse )

The awesome model shots and stuff are a lot easier to appreciate in nice clean HD, as TVified as the bitrate is. The opening shot of the Satellite of Love is so well done.

The movie was on HBO a few weeks back, and I DVR'd it, so the screencaps are mine. Here's hoping this is released on BluRay soon.

The Lower Right is still coming.

3:49 am - PlayStation Home Face Challenge
When CousinErik and I started screwing around with PlayStation Home back whenever they launched the darn thing, we realized it's almost impossible for the average, recreational to build a decent face with it. The settings are waaay too overcomplicated, and the hairstyles are just bad.

Someone eventually challenged me to try to create a decent face... 2 hours later, this is what I came up with.

I think to make a decent face with the thing, you really have to know quite a bit about anatomy as well as how 3D modeling works. There are probably 100 sliders alone for faces in this, and it's in no way easy to make a likeness of yourself as it is with the Wii and Xbox 360. Mostly because the models are caricatures, whereas Home tries for this weird ultra reality where everything's clean.

Even here, it's not perfect. I have to use the 'advanced' controls and warp certain stuff to weird settings just to get things to look close to right.

Sony, if you want to improve this thing, make some super simplified ways of making faces.

Lots of options are cool, but if people can't make something decent in 5-10 minutes, what's the point?

Aside from this, CousinErik and I also realized it was more fun to mess around with HOME, so we created 'The Lower Right.' A character whereby we set EVERY SINGLE SLIDER to the bottom right. What is produced is the most horrific looking fat goth chick with ugly pink hair you could ever imagine. The daughter of Swamp Thing and a raver, it really looks like she hasn't bathed in a week.

We walked around the square, and all the 100s of rail thin supermodels and hipsters kept asking intently, "preggers?!" CousinErik's replies ranged from 'No, this is how I actually look.', 'Nah, I'm just fat.', to 'I'm a spy.... from the wind village in Naruto!!!'

The 3 of you at home who have PS3s: Try to create a decent face yourself and post your results.

Also, thanks guys for the concern in the last post. I'm feeling a lot better, and moving forward to try to be more healthy.

11:42 pm - State of the Brady!
Hey guys, I know it's been a while, so I figure I should update this with something. It's been health related stuff, unfortunately, and blathering about it every day is kinda depressing.

The short of it is... I've not been feeling well lately. I've been really tired lately despite getting pretty good sleep. Last Thursday, I was finishing up some work and my face suddenly felt like it was vibrating. When it stopped, I got real dizzy and lightheaded, bad headache and felt like I was going to be sick (but I never was). Felt like my heart was beating fast and my chest had butterflies in it. I went and had my mom check my pulse, and she said it was okay. I went to bed, woke up yesterday, helped a friend with his computer.. I had a headache, a little stomache discomfort, but it wasn't until 2AM when I started feeling really bad. Same stuff, though not the face vibration thing. Again, my pulse was okay..

We went to the Doctor's on Friday, they took an EKG, a blood sugar test, checked my blood pressure, heart, etc. They said it was normal, though said my blood sugar was a little high for someone who hadn't eaten since the night before. They said that they're not sure what it is, might be stress and overworking, or it may be the early signs of diabetes (..). Either way, they told me to take it easy the next 3 or 4 days and rest. Take some Advil PM and get good sleep. They said to come back for a checkup in a week or two.

One thing I noticed is I hadn't gone to the bathroom in quite a while, and I really couldn't go the night before. On the way home from the doctors when we stopped to eat, I made sure I got some tomatos (this always works for me), so when I went I felt quite a bit better.

I've been feeling better generally, though, still quite tired and sometimes a little dizzy. I still don't know what it is exactly. It's possible I may have inadvertently dropped my caffeine intake, and it's just messed me up all sorts of ways. Maybe it's something else.
